Hey everyone! My name is Gretchen Berry, and I have been an appreciator of music my entire life. I was apart of school choir up until 8th grade, and I have been learning to play the piano for the past 2 and a half years, but i have put that on pause for college. I like to think I listen to a diverse range of music but I think I tend to gravitate towards specific sounds and qualities in the music I listen to.
Currently I have been listening to mostly pop and rock music, but there are a few more specific genres within these that I have been listening to. I like to listen to some older pop, Asian pop (like k-pop or j-pop), indie pop and rock, and some classic rock, but i also generally like listening to any music that's currently popular. One of my favorite artists recently is Rina Sawayama. I love the sound of her music and I think the messages in her music are deep and I appreciate them. One of her most popular songs is called XS and is a commentary on consumerism, and also just a very catchy and dance-able song. The style of the song reminds me of dance pop from the 2000s but with the message of the song it deconstructs and subverts your expectations.
There are many songs which are important to me, and some of it is because of my parents. My dad and I, have bonded over music a lot, so I think I have inherited some of his music tastes. My mom tends to enjoy music similar to my dad, so we often enjoy the same sorts of music. A song my parents really enjoy is the song Friday I'm in Love by The Cure. I also enjoy this song a lot, so we have a shared enjoyment of this song.
There's no a lot of music which I don't enjoy, but I could understand how someone could enjoy it. There are a few types of music though that I do not understand how someone could like it though. For me one of the types of music that i don't enjoy is 80's hair metal. I don't even really understand why I don't like this music, it just doesn't appeal to me.
I have been a big fan of ABBA for a few years now, so when I looked at their spotify profile yesterday and saw that they had released a new single, the first one in about 40 years, I got very excited, so I will also share that here for you all.
Thank you reading my first post! And I hope you enjoy the music I shared. If you'd to share your thoughts you can comment below.
